Alder Hey Secures £4.16 Million Boost to Revolutionize Pediatric Care

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is thrilled to announce a significant funding milestone with a successful raise of £4,160,000, a development that marks another exciting chapter for one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals. As a stand-alone paediatric trust in the UK, Alder Hey treats more than 450,000 children and young people every year and is supported by a dedicated team of over 4,000 employees. This substantial funding injection will directly enhance the wide range of specialist services provided, including the nationally designated centre for head and face surgery and renowned services for children facing cancer, heart, spinal, and brain disease. With a strong commitment to excellence in healthcare, the funding will also support the hospital’s vital role in research and education, underpinning its status as a teaching hospital that trains 550 medical and 400 nursing students each year. Additionally, Alder Hey hosts the UK Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN) with a significant Department of Health grant of £22 million and serves as the lead centre for the Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales MCRN. Its pioneering work in paediatric pharmacovigilance, underscored by the unique paediatric NHS programme grant of £2 million, continues to drive forward advancements that impact patient safety across the nation. The new funding will contribute to ongoing projects, further infrastructure development, and the enhancement of research initiatives, all aimed at improving patient outcomes while preserving the compassionate, innovative care for which Alder Hey is celebrated.
